About Stretch Inc

While addressing the rising costs and development times associated with technologies traditionally used for performance-hungry applications.

Stretch’s thinking was; why not combine the flexibility and control of a software solution with the performance advantages of a hardware approach. This effectively eliminates the compromises embedded software designers have to make on performance, time-to-market, and system cost. With the introduction of the Stretch® S5000 family of software-configurable processors, stretch delivered that and more. The latest addition to the Stretch portfolio is the Stretch® S6000 family. The S6100 and the S6105 devices are the first members of that family and take performance to a new level. These devices deliver the ultimate in performance for highly compute-intensive audio and video applications.

S6000 Family Software Configurable Processors

Every Stretch Inc. S6000 processor is powered by the Stretch® S6 SCPS6000 Engine, which incorporates the Tensilica® Xtensa® LX VLIW processor core and a second generation Stretch Instruction Set Extension Fabric (ISEF). The addition of high speed DMA channels and 64KB of embedded RAM within the ISEF make the S6000 family the ideal processing platform for video and wireless applications.

S6105 IP Camera Reference Design Kit

The Stretch IP Camera Reference Design Kit (RDK) is a multi-standard, high definition, production ready design based on the revolutionary S6105 Software Configurable Processor. Optimized for low material costs and high performance, this reference design provides a breakthrough feature set and price point while retaining sufficient processor bandwidth for leading edge video analytics or proprietary image processing.

The IP Camera RDK application software is built on the Stretch Intelligent Encoder Software Development Kit (SDK) and uses its built in video analytics to adapt its encode algorithms in real time. In this way, the SDK can be configured to encode with either constant quality, constant bit rate or a user defined combination of the two. The Intelligent Encoder SDK delivers unprecedented flexibility through a rich API library that can be used by application software to configure resolutions, frame rates, and CODEC standards.

The Stretch IP Camera Reference Design Kit is capable of performing H.264 compression at 30fps on video streams with resolutions up to 1.3 Mega pixels (Mp) with simultaneous G.711 or G.726 audio encode. MJPEG compression can also be selected and is supported at the full frame rate and resolution of the supplied sensor. When performing H.264 compression on standard definition (D1) streams at 30fps, only 25% of the processing power is consumed. The remaining compute power is available for processing additional streams or performing video analytics. Intelligence built into the encoder allows users to define regions of interest in which to focus stream analysis or define privacy regions and to configure motion, blind, night, and scene change detection. With the built-in web server, users can easily configure the camera from a standard web browser.

S6106 IP Camera Reference Design Kit

The Stretch S6106 IP Camera Reference Design Kit is an ultra-compact IP camera reference design based on the Stretch S6106 software configurable processor. With the main board measuring just 32mm x 72mm, the design is small enough to fit within the smallest of mechanical enclosures. The high level of integration achieved with the S6106 results in a low complexity board design with low power consumption.

The reference design can process and compress multiple video streams at 30 fps using the supplied H.264 CODEC. Alternatively, the processor has enough power to compress full resolution and frame rate video from the supplied wide dynamic range D1 sensor while simultaneously performing complex video analytics. The S6106 IP Camera RDK application is built using the Stretch Intelligent Encoder SDK, giving it multi-stream, multi-CODEC capability.

The S6106 IP Camera RDK is a production-ready reference design that can form the heart of a high performance D1 IP camera without further modification. It is compatible with the same intuitive tool flow and debug environments used across Stretch product lines, so it can also be used as a highly efficient development platform for the S6106 device family.

The reference design is available in both evaluation and full versions. The full version includes a distribution agreement for the Stretch Intelligent Encoder and the hardware design files required to manufacture this production ready kit.

S6100 DVR Reference Design Kit

The Stretch DVR Reference Design Kit (RDK) is a production-ready PCI-Express (PCIe) add-in card based on the revolutionary S6000 family of software configurable processors. The outstanding performance of the S6000 family makes the reference design capable of 16 channels of D1 H.264 encode at 480fps. Leveraging the power of the Stretch Intelligent Encoder Software Development Kit (SDK), the DVR uses built in video analytics to optimize encoder settings for the scene being recorded. In this way, optimum image quality is maintained with minimum consumption of disk space.

The software defined architecture of the RDK gives OEMs the flexibility to change resolution, frame rates, and CODECs on a per stream basis, and to actively manage disk space to store the encoded streams. Its rich Application Programming Interface ensures easy compatibility with third-party software and fast time to market.

Containing four S6000 family software configurable processors, the DVR reference design is capable of encoding 16 streams of 30fps D1 resolution video in either H.264 or MJPEG, along with an accompanying audio stream encoded in G.711 or G.726. The design includes a de-interlacing pre-processor for compatibility with interlaced sources such as analog NTSC or PAL cameras. With the encoder's API, users can easily set regions of interest and criteria for scene change, blind, motion, and night detection, as well as video loss detection and alarm management. The API also controls the scaling and tiling required to configure the card's spot monitor output.

The reference design includes a host PC application and all drivers required to setup and manage the operation of the DVR RDK. The full reference version of the kit includes a distribution license for the Intelligent Encoder and the design files required to manufacture this production ready kit.
